Did you know sweet potatoes and regular potatoes aren’t in the same plant family? Sweet potatoes are morning glories, while regular potatoes are nightshade. Some people and dogs are sensitive to nightshades, but sweet potatoes are usually very well tolerated by all!
They are full of nutrients and soluble fiber that’s great for the gut.
Makes about 1400 calories
Ingredients:
1 small (150 g) sweet potato, chopped
1 lb (454 g) lean ground turkey meat
1 oz freeze dried beef liver
1 cup (60 g) wheat germ
1 large egg
1 tbsp All-Pups Seasoning
1 tbsp (15 ml) extra virgin olive oil
Directions:
In a small pot, boil sweet potatoes in water until they are fork tender. Strain them and set aside.
Preheat oven to 350°F.
In a large mixing bowl, combine cooked sweet potato, turkey, beef liver, wheat germ, egg, olive oil and All-Pups Seasoning. Mix well.
Spread the mixture into any suitable loaf pan (or shape it into a loaf on a baking tray).
Bake for 45-55 minutes or until internal temp (use a meat thermometer) registers 165°F.
Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly before slicing.
Serve when cool to the touch. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to four days or freeze for up to 6 months.
