Kitchen Exclusive - Chicken & Quinoa for Older Dogs and Weight Maintenance
If your dog is overweight simply omit quinoa and olive oil
Vets and pet food companies talk about nutrient balance, but what I think is even more fundamental is macronutrient balance. In my opinion, they do this as a distraction because they can easily and cheaply add vitamins and minerals with synthetics. Kibble is made to be cheap, and the cheapest source of calories is carbohydrates. It’s gotten to the point where many of the leading brands of dog food are now up to 70% carbs. If you’ve read my other posts you know that the research suggests that carbs should not make up the majority of a dogs diet. This leads to metabolic disorder, obesity and chronic disease.
This diet was formulated for my partners dog who is almost 15 years old. Also a dachshund, Rocky was suffering from severe tooth decay and recurrent mouth infections. He was listless and didn’t want to move. Within two months of switching to this diet he was infection free and running around again. For anyone that thinks food doesn’t make a difference…well, they’re probably not using this recipe!
